LBYWA is an important part of our educational and community outreach program. Since 2010, Juvenilia Press, in partnership with the Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture, UNSW and Randwick City Council, has been involved with this exciting creative writing initiative; a literary institution in the eastern suburbs, which has grown to include schools from across Sydney.

This bi-annual writing competition is open to students from Years 3 to 12, and the theme for 2020 was “A City for Tomorrow”.

Submissions of poetry and short stories were shortlisted by a Randwick City Library panel. UNSW Creative Writing Lecturer and author Roanna Gonsalves selected the winning entries, which were published in a book by Juvenilia Press.

Due to COVID restrictions, this year a Virtual Awards Ceremony and Book Launch was held on 10 December at UNSW, with JP Director and General Editor Christine Alexander among the guest speakers. Prize winners had their photos taken and received various prizes, including JP books and copy of their 2020 LBYWA book, at the Bowen Library in Maroubra at a pre-arranged time.
